WHO Welcomes New Nets Project

WHO has welcomed the launch of the New Nets Project by Unitaid and the Global Fund who have collaborated to support developing the evidence base for the introduction of new types of bed nets.

Pyrethroids are the only insecticide class currently approved by WHO for use on bed nets, but in recent years a number of dual AI nets- combining a pyrethroid plus another unrelated active ingredient- have been developed.

The New Nets Project comprises a number of trials and pilots to determine if a number of these new nets have impact above and beyond the current standard of care.
