The Pan African Malaria Vector Research Consortium (PAMVERC) facility in Moshi, Tanzania, has taken a significant step closer to Good Laboratory Practice compliance.

The facility’s Quality Manual has been reviewed and the pre-inspection visit completed by SANAS (South African National Accreditation System), who are the regional body for GLP compliance certification. The next step in the process is the running of a vector control product study that is fully compliant with the principles of GLP. The facility, which is based at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College (KCMUCo) and supported by IVCC, will begin the study shortly.

SANAS will then revisit the site to carry out a full inspection of the facility and the study they have conducted to ensure conformance, before a certificate of GLP compliance can be awarded. It is planned that this will happen before the end of the year.

At the end of July, a GLP accreditation workshop was also held at KCMUCo to share lessons learnt from the capacity-building process with staff from other facilities in Africa which are progressing on the same path to GLP compliance.
